ASCE Team to Assess Damage in Haiti
11 Engineers From Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering to Open Weeklong Probe Feb. 28 Due to the extensive damage to lifelines, the tragedy is ongoing for Haiti as it slowly recovers from January's magnitude 7 earthquake.
Curt Edwards, chairman of the Earthquake Investigation Committee of ASCE's Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering, will lead a TCLEE team to Haiti to evaluate the performance of lifelines. The TCLEE team members below will focus on transportation (including ports and highways), power systems, telecommunication, water and waste water systems, hospitals and schools. Curt Edwards, Psomas, Haiti Team Leader Alex Pierre Augustin, State of California Don Ballantyne, MMI Engineering Bill Bruin, Halcrow Rick Carter, State of Oregon Stu Werner, Seismic Systems and Engineering Brucely Joseph, URS Aimee Lavarnway, Shannon and Wilson Nason McCullough, CH2MHill Mark Pickett, University of Toledo (Ohio) Dave Plum, URS Corporation Team members will arrive Feb. 28 for a weeklong investigation. The TCLEE team will be coordinating with Reginald DesRoches, chairman of the TCLEE executive committee and Haiti team leader for the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Throughout the world, lifeline services are the backbone of our society. Lifelines provide transmission and distribution of energy and water; transportation of people and goods over land, water, and air, communication services and wastewater disposal.
